The band was as energetic and played their songs with a beautiful precision as if they were still in their 20s. They definitely played an amazing show. Everyone singing along, people crowd surfing, and others moshing. You could just feel the excitement from everyone. There were dust clouds everywhere and the dust you were inhaling did not matter because you were there to see the band that recently reunited play a set!
Here's a song that they played during their set, Summer Holidays vs Punk Routine.
The crowd went nuts when they played New Noise. After the introduction of New Noise happened, and Dennis Lxyzen, frontman of Refused, goes "Got to Scream!" right before the song kicks in everyone just went in this maddening rampage of joy, excitement, and enthusiasm.
Dennis later on in the show would thank their fans for showing up, and his disbelief that the band has gotten popular over the years when they were broken up, and the incredible journey it has been since they have returned. He said that they were being selfish by not being together because they thought it was the right thing to do through their "fucked up" ideals.
Dennis continued the show with telling fans to always think for themselves and question everything. Do not follow the system blindly. He would also give recognition to the Russian band Pussy Riot! and talk about their wrongful imprisonment for speaking out against their government and church.
Refused played a great show and it was a good ending to the first night of the festival. FYF keeps growing every year and it's great to see that it has become a 2 day festival. Made it an enjoyable weekend.
Another notable punk band was Fucked Up, Canadian punk band. They had amazing stage presence and the vocalist, Damian Abraham, would constantly be making hysterical remarks about his weight. Before they played the song "I Hate Summer," he joked that summer is not the ideal season for overweight people like himself. He would pump the crowd up and crowd surf!
