The goals of Sprouts City Farms is to use unused urban land and turn them into farms for local residents. Since, they have done this with Denver Green School, it has given them great success and feedback. It has been able to give them an immense quantity of fruits and vegetables for the school. Children are enjoying the process of planting, and then eating their crops.
The school is saving money by buying a continuous amount of fresh produce at minimal cost. Since local residents are able to buy produce from the garden it is able to stay financially stable for the future. This garden is being funded by a community supported agriculture.
Story paraphrased from: Natural News
This is great to see underutilized or unused land being used for a greater purpose. Especially where children, these days, are growing up eating junk food. The school is providing them with an excellent service to better their health from the start. A healthy well balanced diet leads to better success in school. This will prevent the children, when they're older, from worrying about their health. If you're on a high fat and a high sodium diet it will lead to serious health problems. Which is what most schools in this country serve, because the schools are sponsored by junk food companies.
