Welcome!

Welcome to the Punk and Vegetarian Recipes blog. This blog will discuss punk bands and various vegetarian or vegan recipes.

What is punk? Punk is more than music. It's about creativity, community, equality, individuality, politics, questioning, self-expression, and unity. It is a lifestyle not a trend.

Chipotle Approves FDA Ban

The FDA ban to prohibit the use of antibiotics and certain drugs on animal livestock. The FDA tried to get the ruling overturned last week. Chipotle approves the ban and believes that if animals are treated properly with care, there would be no need for antibiotics.

Story summarized from VegNews.

There needs to be more companies like Chipotle who care about the well-being of animals. They are showing an immense example to other restaurants and companies out there!

FDA Denies Petition

The FDA denied the petition to name change high fructose corn syrup to corn sugar. The Corn Refiners Association were trying to convince consumers that sugar and high fructose corn syrup were identical. FDA denied this petition saying that "the use of the term ‘sugar’ to describe HFCS, a product that is a syrup, would not accurately identify or describe the basic nature of the food or its characterizing properties."

Beet Chips!

Want to enjoy some delicious chips as a snack. Well here's a chip you can't deny, beet chips! This is not only delectable, but also healthy!

Ingredients:
Beets 3
Olive Oil
Salt (optional)
Lemon (optional)

Directions:
1.) Pre-heat oven at 325 degrees.
2.) Cut beets into slices.
3.) Put olive oil on pan, just enough to make sure the beets will not stick.
4.) Add the beets on the pan, spread them out evenly
5.) Once they turn dark red and black, they are ready. With this low heat it takes about 40 mins to an hour.
6.) Serve!

The sweet taste of the beets are enough to enjoy it without salt or lemon. You can add them if you want to have that extra taste in it.

Delicious Snack!

Ever just want to munch on something when you are reading, watching TV, listening to music, or simply just have the craving for something? Here is a great recipe with green beans!

Ingredients for Roasted Green Beans:
2 lbs green beans
1 -2 tablespoon olive oil (or just enough to lightly coat beans)
1 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste, may substitute with Mrs. Dash if desired)
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper (or to taste, omit if using Mrs. Dash)

2.)Wash, dry well, and trim green beans.
3.)Put green beans on a jelly roll pan.
4.)Drizzle with olive oil.
5.)Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste (This is if you enjoy it salty - use about 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt and about 8-10 grinds of the pepper mill). *Mrs. Dash may be substituted for salt and pepper as desired.
6.)Use your hands to be sure all the beans are evenly coated and spread them out into 1 layer.
7.)Roast for 20-25 minutes, turning after 15 minutes, until beans are fairly brown in spots and somewhat shriveled.
8.)Serve hot or at room temperature.
