Welcome!

Welcome to the Punk and Vegetarian Recipes blog. This blog will discuss punk bands and various vegetarian or vegan recipes.

What is punk? Punk is more than music. It's about creativity, community, equality, individuality, politics, questioning, self-expression, and unity. It is a lifestyle not a trend.

Guardian's Article

Dorian Lynskey from The Guardian wrote an article, "No Future? Punk is still the sound of youth rebellion the world over," about the survival of punk. It's a great article speaking about how everyone has a different meaning of punk. When ideals clash, the basic fundamentlas of self-expression, independence, nonconformity, resistance, and a belief in alternatives unifies and keeps the survival of punk culture.

A great quote from the article was from Mike Sabbagh, Occupy London Exchange activist who works on the Occupied Times paper. He said "I remember when I was 16 in Detroit, listening to bands like NOFX, Crass and Conflict and thinking: 'I don't feel like a crazy person anymore. There's other people who feel like this and they're articulating problems that I'm only starting to get into focus. It's not just the lyrics that are pushing back against social norms – it's the practice of getting out and publishing your own stuff, making small communities. People really can make a huge difference in music and the shared communities that come out of it."

Summary and qoute taken from The Guardian. Read it, it's a great article!

Censorship

Censorship and our right to freedom of speech will be compromised in the next few days if these legislations are passed..National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA), and the Stop Online Piracy Act are both legislation if passed will censor the internet.

Since President Obama's advisers are saying that Obama is withdrawing his veto vote on these legislations. It will become law. This is an immense threat to our American freedoms and rights.

The media has not chosen to give us any information on this for the past few weeks. All we've gotten are the usual celebrity gibberish.

When it passes if you post something controversial the government can make it vanish. If you irritate the government by criticizing it could arrest you, and detain you for the remainder of your life without having access to an attorney or trial.

Be wary of what you do,what you criticize, and who you associate with. This is the beginning of the end of our freedoms.

Elephant Death

An elephant death occurred on Thursday in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Umoya was a 21 year old elephant originating from Swaziland, Africa. Umoya was one of seven elephants brought to California to be put in the zoo.Umoya most likely suffered attacks by another elephant.

The zoo has reported the death to the federal officials, since it is their stand procedure to do so. However, the death has caused  an uproar amongst the animal liberation community. It has shown how inadequate zoos are to hold any animal.

In Defense of Animals called for the Department of Agriculture to do a full investigation on what actually occurred. Peta spokesperson, David Perle, state that the elephant should have never been driven away from their home.

Both these organizations, Peta and In Defense of Animals, strongly oppose the idea of having animals in zoos.

Story was paraphrased from LA Times.

Conflict talks about animal liberation strongly throughout their lyrics and songs. We must continue to push to get animal liberation. Organizations such as In Defense of Animals, Peta, and Ethical Treatment of Animals are showing how much they want to push for animal liberation. Here are a couple solid tunes from the band. Enjoy.
